"Shields of the Americas"

“Shields of the Americas”

This compilation of ancient Pre-Colombian artifacts some found perfectly preserved in the Atacama dessert of Northern Chile. They come from pottery, textiles and basket weavings that remained intact trough the centuries post Spanish conquest. This is due to the extreme lack of humidity on what is known to be the place on earth with the lowest rainfall. Atacameños’ and Diaguitas’ pottery inspired the color pallet on this painting, their polished geometric patterns using only black and white paint against the red terracotta background.
